Electric power systems, networks, electric power transmissions, their modes, stability and reliability

Electric power is a basic industry of the Russian economy, exporting electricity to the CIS countries and abroad. Sustainable growth and reliable operation of the industry in many ways determine the energy security of a state and are important factors for its economic welfare. The development of the industry requires high-level knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of management and design with account of such aspects as economy and reliability.

Students learn:

  • computer, network and information technologies;
  • modern problems of electric power;
  • information and measuring technologies and electronics;
  • theoretical foundations of electrical engineering;
  • reliability of electrical systems.

During the training students learn the methodology of research and development activities and do educational and industrial practice. At the final stage of the academic master’s degree candidates perform scientific research and defend a project.

Specialization disciplines include:

  • power systems and networks;
  • electromechanics;
  • simulation modes of power;
  • high-voltage equipment.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will:

  • learn the set of modern technologies in the field of energy; seize analysis technique technical problems, systematization and summarizing of scientific and technical information and patent sources; set goals and objectives of the research;
  • examine methods of creating and analyzing models that allow to predict the properties and behavior of objects of professional activity, asses risk and determine the security measures for developing of new technologies, electric power facilities and electrical products;
  • acquire skills of installation, adjustment, testing and commissioning of electric power and electrical equipment, research planning, choice of methods of experimentation and presentation of research results;
  • is able to implement and efficiently use modern scientific and technological achievements of Russian and foreign companies and enterprises in the field of process automation in electric power systems;
  • is able to solve the problems of operation and design of automatic control and protection of electric power systems based on modern software and hardware systems.

Job placement

The graduates can perform research, design, production, technological, operational, organizational, managerial, teaching activities.

Upon completion of the training graduates can:

  • work in the leading companies of electricity production and distribution, engineering and energy service companies, design organizations, specialized institutes, power engineering enterprises as: technologists, specialists, heads of departments;
  • teach in higher and secondary educational institutions, continue their education in graduate school, choosing a career of a scientist, a developer of new technologies in the field of energy and electrical engineering.

Upon graduation and defending the graduation project students get master’s degree of the Russian Federation state standard, as well as pan-European Diploma Supplement (Diploma Supplement).
